100 Cheetah

To challenge myself to get this cheetah thing down, I set a goal of 100 cheetah works before the end of the year...all drawing sketches and paintings count toward the goal, here are a few I've done so far, mostly all based on the cheetah I observe at Safari West in Sonoma County. The only exception is Shaka, a King cheetah( a pattern variation) who lives at Dewildt Cheetah Sanctuary in So Africa. Hope you enjoy these spotted ones.... BTW I'm up to # 70

Cheetah don't really climb trees much, their claws are short for running not climbing, but here he is up there anyway.

Alchemist mediums are recreated secret mediums used by the old Flemish masters like Rembrant... they create incredible light and depth unlike any other way I've used oils, one of the mediums has real amber in it, when used to finish a work it is sealed and preserved with a hard impervious finsh which is not affected by cleanings in the future, the usual is to wait a year for the oil to dry before being able to varnish the painting which will have to be revarnished again, Also they can be polished for more depth using 1500 sandpaper or tripoli powder. This is the first work...to find out more about the process follow this link. www.ambervarnish.com

A great Blog Colleen! I love your enthusiasm for your subjects. Your Cheetah pictures are lovely, but of course my favourite cat is Calisto :)

Keep up the great work!
